My Best Literary Moments of 2016… A Top 10 List!

What a 2016 it has been! Up and down, up in the air and over and back and forth across a pacified pandemonium its been. The longest year I don’t care if I ever revisit again, save for these TEN occasions I’m taking with me into 2017.

For starters, I pine to read relatable posts easy to respect. Six of my absolute mood moving, mind mending were:

Alan Rinzler’s Write a killer memoir: My 9 top tips hit all kinds of high notes. All of the memoirs I’ve read and enjoyed seem to resonate from this school of thought.

Books are back. Only the technodazzled thought they would go away by Simon Jenkins @ the Guardian got me to smiling, thinking about how different the conversation would be had avid book readers been an integral part of implementing e-book technologies.

Bookish Ways to Fight the Good Fight by Sarah Nicolas @ Book Riot is a post that will appeal to the masses fighting a good fight.

Patricia Thang’s On Deciding to Become a Different Type of Reader @ Book Riot shares perspectives on reasons for reading that twisted my thoughts all kinds of ways. First I wanted to say this, and then say that, ultimately deciding it’s best to leave as is and simply share a truly eclectic moral of a point of view.

The Do's and Don'ts for Book Gifting: The quintessential guide @ Bookstr was another applaudable read.

10 Major Benefits of Reading by Jorge Sette @ BookWitty was by a good stretch of words a favorite.

There were other tangents of the literary nature that also made my 2016. I’ve been floored by Book Review Requests received this year. I still get a lot of requests, how I end up flagging so many. In this instance it’s a good thing, but sort of a bad thing in that it’s doubled-over my to-read pile. And still, two favorite books read this year stemmed from my doubled-over system. I can’t explain how humbling it is knowing how many care to send the very best. Oh, wait…I can. Read my thoughts on Taimak and One of the Few.

Meeting Other Authors as well puts a royal spin on high notes this year. Trying not to miss acknowledging authors met this year, found me scrolling hours through hundreds of literary connections made in 2016 alone! Surely this year couldn’t have been as bumpy and lumpy as initially perceived. Participating in the 2016 Celebration of Black Arts was an inexplicable humbling experience, right along with meeting author Dr. Scott Glenn and memoirist of My Road, (retired) Major General Charles E. Williams.

Now, of course my Top 10 Favorite Books read in 2016 is what cushioned a challenging year...with largely lasting effects. It’s undreamed-of to reflect how the year may have 'road out' had it not been for ‘And So it Goes: Kurt Vonnegut: A Life by Charles J. Shields, 90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Death and Life by Don Piper, Every Little Step: My Story by Bobby Brown, Eye to the Sky: Storytelling on the Edge of Magic by Bobby Norfolk, A Hand to Guide Me by Denzel Washington, Taimak, The Last Dragon by Taimak Guarriello, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America by Barbara Ehrenreich, Tiger Woods: The Making of a Champion by Tim Rosaforte, A Mysterious Life and Calling: From Slavery to Ministry in South Carolina by Charlotte S. Riley, and edited by Crystal J. Lucky, and Poison Ivy by Kathryn White.’

But this here is the one! I took on a 50K-24 Hour Writing Challenge…ugh…that I did not meet, but did get my writing mojo back! …More on that in the new year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
