Comparing Apples, Oranges and a New Year’s Resolution

Kind of wondering, is it a ‘ta-may-toe’, a ‘ta-ma-toe’, or who really cares so long as it tastes like a tomato. In other words, although this year I’ve been riding the roller-coaster of my life I still managed to fulfill one resolution for the year! YES indeed, I completed my 2024 reading challenge!!!

I had my doubts about pulling this one off ...at least without cheating… but fair and square I read 25 books this year.

1. I started the year reading ‘The Undiscovered Paul Robeson’ by Paul Robeson, Jr. “… a great way to kick off a new year…too sure this biography was going to be a hard act to follow.”
2. And then I went for ‘Bullwhip Days (The Slaves Remember)’ edited by James Mellon. “…impressive collection of slave narratives…”
3. ‘In Order to Live’ by Yeonmi Park “…humbling. Memorable.”
4. ‘Leslie F*ing Jones’ by Leslie Jones “…and so now I know.”
5. ‘Top Billin’’ by Bill Bellamy “…a dose of feel good inspiration.”
6. ‘Share My Life’ by KEM “…another comforting read.”
7. ‘Dimestore’ by Lee Smith “…took me back to the good ‘ole’ days…”
8. ‘Elon Musk’ by Walter Isaacson “…easy read, and transparent to boot!”
9. ‘Thank You’ by Sly Stone “…a funkadelic read!”
10. ‘Memoir of a Nerd’ by Hank Mancini “…a humorous take-me-back super-fast read!”
11. ‘Black Privilege’ by Charlamagne the God “…soulful reading entertainment for sure!”
12. ‘He Talk Like a White Boy’ by Joseph C. Phillips “…indulgent, but meat on the spine, warm…”
13. ‘The New Immigrants’ by Anne Snowden Crossman “…conversational immigration narratives…”
14. ‘Not Without My Daughter’ by Betty Mahmoody “…definitely more in-depth than the movie!”
15. ‘Coming Home’ by Brittney Griner “…a crisp, clear, chop-chop to-the-point testimony!”
16. ‘Around the World in Black & White’ by Alana Best “…a family travel adventure…”
17. ‘A Man From Another Land’ by Isaiah Washington “…deeply reflective ‘roots’ discovery…”
18. ‘Hillbilly’ by J.D. Vance “…an American story on class and culture…”
19. ‘Connie’ by Connie Chung “…Connie’s testimony on old-school journalism delivers!”
20. ‘Will’ by Will Smith “YES SIR!!! Everything comes second to the Dream!!!”
21. ‘Solito’ by Javier Zamora “…Scenic…and certainly moving…”
22. ‘Master of Me’ by KeKe Palmer “…passionate selfcare advice from she who has been there…”
23. ‘My Mother Was Nuts’ by Penny Marshall “…Satire Galore!”
24. ‘The Boy From Block 66’ by Limor Regev “…extolling a lost childhood, and family destroyed.”
25. ‘A Football Mom’s Playbook’ by Sheila Henderson and Dr. Rhonda Sneed “…a nightstand pick-me-upper…”

Thank you ALL for sharing your stories. Your testimonies mean the world to me. Up next, a video of my favorite top ten.

Wishing Everyone A Happy New Year!!!
