The Books I Highly Recommend.
Though it’s been posted on my blog here and there before, it’s time to provide a condensed refresher on ‘highly recommended books’ I’ve read.
First up, ‘…Is it Work?’ —That being… is what I do, the way I do it, worthwhile work?
Of course highlighting ‘One Story At A Time’ is work. Does anyone realize how many people... point of views... are in this world!?! But guess what? Doing what I do is absolutely worthwhile! Personally, I can only hope more copycats hop on this ride, doing exactly what I’m doing. Aside from the relaxation and mental workout spotlighting truly engaging memoirs and bios, lots of reading within itself also 'matures' the comprehension and analytical skills. And that’s not all. Staggering is the larger picture evolving. Genuinely clapping for others indeed shines a lil’ light my way, but pales in comparison to the light enlightening the entire literary industry. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving. This is it.
And still, the jewel I revel over is simply making others feel good. Trust me, I know. Anyone who pours a significant portion of their essence into writing a personal testimony, emphatically wants to know what others, who have actually laid up with their book…often for days reading every single page…word for word, REALLY THINK.
‘Do I get paid?’
YES!!! & No.
The books I read, review and highly recommend I purchase. On the other end, (as scooped above), my reward is in the investment. I win, when others win, plus I get a handsome library out of the deal, which saves time, money and extra energy scouring for, purchasing and hanging wall décor that doesn't hold so much as a glance-back as my library! 😎 It’s fine to disagree with me here.
‘How do I find/select books to read?’
Straight to the point no filler or chaser… my writer antenna is always up and out there looking and listening for stories I hope move my mood dial in the right direction. Be it TV, News outlets, bookstores, Dollar store, online discussion boards and blogs, listening to a song, remembering an old movie I stay tuned in, scarfing for book gems. FYI. I have ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ by Tears for Fears and ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams on repeat this week.
‘What am I reading next?’
Alrighty, and here we go. Unlike My Top 10 (end of the year) reading lists I love to share, I’ve started shying away from sharing books on my ‘next up’ to-read pile. Words only marginally explain how disappointing it is to buy a book, get it home, fluff up my pillows…with my bubbles and expectations set on high… only to open the book and end up throwing it against the wall. DAMN, that hurts! I absolutely hate it when that happens. I want every book I buy, to be the one that has me stopping traffic to describe it.
And so… okay. Maybe too much? Point is, I hardly destroy books. I preserve the books I spend my dollars and cents on, even maintaining a designated space for them. During times when my mood barometer is swinging its wildest I’ve gone to my DNF (did not finish) cache, for a second looksie, and many times rediscovered the best thing I’d read all year. Some have landed on my coveted Top 10 lists. So I’ll mute this question. Until I’m able to uncross my fingers, toes, and anything else tightly sealed, hoping the one pleasure I depend on is not dashed, mum is the word on what I’m reading next. 😊
Case in point! I just finished reading ‘The Book of Joan’ by Melissa Rivers. Wow! Never saw that one coming. (My thoughts here).
