Going for a Long Wonderful Ride
After I finished reading CFI! The Book by Alex Stone (other thoughts here), I had to laugh. That being I got so tickled about the story itself, that it hadn’t occurred to me, until about 2½ weeks after-the-fact, that I spent three weeks reading 145 pages! That’s never happened.
But this is what inspired this post; what got me to thinking about books like riding across country. The U.S. country.
Picture it for a sec. Opening a book, like opening a car door, and hopping in to ride shotgun with an author… be they spouse, other family, friend or even a perfect stranger. Door closed and right off the storytelling begins. The driver/the author telling... and we-me/the passenger reading/or in the given case listening. Now, for the sake of time and getting through this post, all I ask is how would you like to spend a week listening to this person? And let’s clip on, to enlarge the drama, what if you endured this carpool situation, back and forth, back and forth for several years…motivated by getting paid an incredible sum of money?!
Look, in the given scenario, by my experiences reading sooo many memoirs, I want laughter and fun all the way, each and every time I make this trip! And yeah, sometimes stuff happens where the author might feel the need to get some upside down situation off their chest. That’s fine. I mean, once or twice…or here and there… no big deal. It happens. On occasions I read (and write) them stories too. Other times this author might be feeling a little this or that way and get kind of freaky or weird, or start talking dark and cryptic. Perhaps they know a thing or two about some technical or political or religious matter that requires a microscope to see the point, or various points of light.
What I’m getting at here is, of the numerous stories any one person can share, the best ride, hands up or down, has to be the one where, at the very least, the overwhelming majority of these trips are fun, funny and inspiring enough to hop on in and go for this ride…over and over and over again. I’d much rather be riding life, to life riding me. Just saying... for the sole sake of inspiring reading!
